Goals
- To provide information and emotional support to stroke survivors and their families
- To increase public awareness of stroke and its consequences
- To promote the return to society of stroke survivors by providing a friendly environment for socialization. Peer support of both survivors and caregivers is the cornerstone of SRAO philsophy
- To acquaint and educate the community regarding stroke and its impact on the family
Stroke is the third largest cause of death in Canada, and the leading cause of adult disability. The SRAO, Burlington Chapter is necessary because stroke is, by its very nature, socially isolating. After a stroke, survivors are often cut off from the world of work, recreation and fellowship by permanent physical and mental disabilities. The SRA provides a community of support and friendship, helping to rebuild lives changed forever.
